Symbols of the Witchfather

The Witchfather as a Dark-Lord-kind-of-figure really does not exist, except insofar as He may be the Horned Father as troubled humans see Him through the lens of their own fear, malice, ignorance, vengeance, delusion, sense of oppression or alienation, and so on. Nonetheless, He so loves His children that He will permit you to work with Him in that guise. Like any good Father, if you keep shitting yourself, He will clean you and keep changing your diaper. What a drag for Him, right? Don't worry about it. He's immortal and a mighty spirit so vast that His presence is contiguous with the Earth, itself. He can handle our idiocy, and a lot of diapers.

He has five major symbols.

1. The Crown of Horns: Animal and human nature may become kingly and godly dominion.

2. The Ashwood Stang: He guards and travels the Axis of the Worlds.

3. The Serpent: His familiar: the spirit of regeneration.

4. The Torch: How He lights the way of His children.

5. The Upright Pentagram: Placing Spirit as the "First Among Equals" as it flows and, in its flowing, creates the Four Elements.

Even I, who have known Him for so long, must sometimes work with Him in this guise:

Witchfather, Wanderer,
Teacher, and Guide,
Master of the Serpent,
Salvation of the Wise,
Father of Regeneration,
Father of the Way,
Oh, Holy Fire at the Roots of the World,
Oh, Flame of Hope
In the reaches of darkness,
May the Light of your Wisdom
Shine through me,
And free me from all ignorance and delusion.
So mote it be.

I also have to remind myself that He is not there to "empower" me against adversity, or to give me the wherewithal or gumption to strike my enemies, or to encourage me to indulge my capricious whims and momentary desires, which some asinine movie recently called "living deliciously." No, I know, as I have said, that he is the Good Father, and so this is what I ask of Him, instead:

Burn me in Your Waters:
Adaptation, Gratitude, Patience.
Wash me in Your Fires:
Humility, Nonattachment, Truth.

Such, dear Seeker, is the way of the wise ones. Remember it.

I will tell you about the "Dark Mother" some other time. She doesn't exist, either, technically, but She is the Queen of Heaven, as troubled humans see Her through the lens of their own fear, malice, ignorance, etc.

*** Blessed be to those who serve the Great Mother and the Horned Father.
