Astrology: Negative Spirit?

The Querent (Q) has a friend (Friend) about whom she has been concerned for about a year. Q recently thought it might be prudent to ask an astrologer, "Is my friend being negatively affected by an occult being?"

The short answer is "no, she is not," but you can read the details of the astrological analysis here:

The Friend is Lord 11, which is Venus in Aquarius. Venus is not in great condition essentially, since she has only dignity of face. She could be much worse off. But that's beside the point, really.

There is no past direct bodily aspect of any planet to Venus to account for the possibility of a negative entity afflicting the Friend. And there is nothing else afflicting Venus, either, such as the antiscion of another planet, or the malign influence of an outer planet.

We have a mutually applying bodily aspect between a retrograde Mars and Venus. But because it is applying, it would indicate something in the future.

But, wait a second! The Moon's last aspects were an opposition to Venus and then a sextile to Mars. This is the Moon translating the light of Venus to Mars, bringing them together. Not only that, but the antiscion of the Moon is conujunct the cusp of the 11th house.

So, Mars seems to be a bit of a culprit here, all the more so because Mars is in the 11th house, the House of the Friend. What is Mars? An obvious answer is that Mars is Lord of the Friend's turned 12th House. Lord 12 could be many things. (1) It could be self-undoing, i.e., self- inflicted, self-destructive behavior. It could be something more neutral than that, too . . . such as self-imprisonment, the Friend staying inside and keeping herself away from others. Mars is in an Air sign, signifying the mind, so there is an element of the Friend keeping herself in a mental prison with her thoughts. (2) Lord 12 could also be a "hidden enemy," and a negative entity could certainly fit within that category. So, we must look at the chart and determine which it is.

If a negative entity were involved we would expect Mars to have some power over Venus. And we would also expect Mars to use that power to be harming Venus. To determine if that is the case, we need to look at the dignities and receptions of Mars and Venus.

Here, Venus is in no dignity whatsoever of Mars. Therefore, Mars has no power over Venus.
Furthermore, the receptions of Mars show zero interest in Venus, and it certainly is not harming Venus.

There is no negative entity here. That eliminates option (2). Option (1) remains as the default: what is afflicting the Friend is not a negative entity, but her own self-imprisoning thoughts.

We can offer the Querent some hope, however. The power brought on by this translation of light will not last forever. Mars will eventually leave the 11th house. Venus is presently in a fixed sign, so the Friend feels fixed, too, like she is in a bad rut. But the next sign Venus enters is Pisces, the sign of her exaltation. Venus will lift herself up. And that means that the Friend will lift herself up, too, out of the rut. We can even offer a timing for that. Venus will reach Pisces in approximately 23 degrees. In the context of the situation, that is probably about 23 weeks. Venus is moving 25% faster than her normal rate, so we can knock a few degrees/weeks off of that. My judgment is that the Friend will start picking herself up again in about 18 to 20 weeks, or 4 to 5 months.

*** Blessed be to those who serve the Great Mother and the Horned Father.
