Curse Breaking

I had an inquiry last night from someone who thought that he might have been a victim of a curse. In speaking to him on the telephone, it appeared that the curse had been deflected and did not take effect. Minor curses sometimes get deflected like that because a family spirit is watching over the person.

He was curious whether it could have been the work of a coven of Witches. No, not in this area. There are so few genuine covens here, and none of them would engage in such a thing. But that does not signify . . . many families have magical traditions. They are not of the Craft of the Wise, but they may have a background in African, Latin, and Afro-Carribean magic, or American Hoodoo. They are not Witches, but they can cast curses.

A curse cast intentionally by a magical practitioner is not a minor thing. It is doubtful whether a nonWitch (including the self-proclaimed and groups of same) could break one on his own. A pagan coven not of the Wica or in the lineage of the Old Religion, even working as a whole, probably also could not do it. If there is a spirit-sending involved in the curse, the person dealing with it will have to be clairvoyant and, hopefully, able to act on the astral plane. The victim will have be cleansed and sealed, and you have to know what substances are efficacious in doing that. You will not find them published in books. If it is a generational curse cast by an ancestral spirit, that spirit will have to be summoned and called to account for its behavior and stopped. It will resist. It has momentum. "Begone!" or "I banish you!" or "We break the generational curse!" will not work.

If you have no real lineage amongst the Wise, no one on the Inner Planes will recognize you as having any authority to do anything whatsoever. This is one of the great harms perpetrated by untrained and self-proclaimed people. We, ourselves, have been victimized by such people, but only to our annoyance, and not to our harm.

When an initiated Witch steps up to the plate in a cursing situation, and gets ready to raise her bat, she does not come alone. She comes sharp, cold, clear and efficient, like the tip of an iceberg. She, and everyone behind her, is on your side.

One thing that has astonished me over the years is the amount of people who think that they can be diagnosed in a cursing matter over email or, now, by texting or some other messaging system. If you are not willing to give a Witch the gift of your voice in exchange for her help, or even your personal presence if she requests it, do not even bother contacting her in the first place. A Witch can break most minor unconsciously cast jinxes in under 10 seconds if you are in her presence (she is, after all, a priestess of this whole Earth, and she has the power of absolution, like most priesthoods do). If it is an intentional curse from a family tradition from one or more practitioners, she will in all probability need to diagnose you and release you by your physical presence (it would take me about an hour to do it). If it is an ancestral spirit causing problems over generations, it is probably going to take somewhere between 3 and 30 days to get the thing resolved. Those nuts don't crack open in an hour. :D
