Seven and the Year of Plants
Apr. 6th, 2023 02:31 pm
2023, in the reckoning of the Craft, is the Year of Plants. Here are some thoughts to ponder.
(1) The Witch will often take Nature as her Teacher and one of the great doctrines that the plant kingdom can teach her is this:
The force that creates life is also the force that causes death.
The force that causes death is also the force that produces resurrection.
We know the doctrine was contemplated even so far back as the Egyptians and the Sumerians. Amongst the ancient Egyptians, the principle was personified by the Green-Skinned Osiris, as well as their old proverb "azultah tahm onkh ay-nah vah" -- "It is the hand of death that brings life."
(2) The wise ones have many proverbs about plants and seeds.
All seeds answer light, though they produce different plants.
The seed cannot sprout upward without simultaneously rooting downward.
There grows no wheat where there is no grain.
(3) Plants are one of the great teachers of cosmology. Cosmologia splits into two categories: Astrologia above, and Signatura below.
Signatura is then divided into four subcategories: Chiromantia, Physiognomia, Substantia, Consuetudia. These all have very specific definitions based on parts, wholes, insides, outsides, inertia, and motion. All of these are readily observable in the plant kingdom.
*** Blessed be to those who serve the Great Mother and the Horned Father.
