There are various old traditional charms and spells associated with each of the letters of the Futhark alphabet. You will not find them in books. There are several volvur (female seers) and vitkar (male sorcerors) of the Northern traditions who know these old spells, and they will share them with you if you prove your spiritual lineage as a Witch and good faith. Even if of different traditions, the Wise withhold nothing from one another. Here is one such traditional spell.

This Rune is Ur, which means “Aurochs,” a type of Wild Ox that used to roam Europe, but which became extinct in the late 1600s. Ur is associated with strength, physical energy, good health, strong male energy, will, diligence, vitality, courage, stamina, life force, power, intensity, and independence.

A Charm For Strength or Health: Find a branch fallen from a mighty oak tree. Take it home, and break it in two places, and then form it into an Ur rune, as above. Place this on the ground or floor and sit before it, with your outstretched right index finger over it. Begin chanting the galdr spell OOOOOOO-RRRRRRR over the rune, elongating the vowel sounds as long as your breath will allow. With each recitation of the chant, use your right index finger to trace the letter just above the branch, without actually touching it. The tracing starts on the left hand side, goes up, slides downward to the right, and then finally down to the bottom again.

As you chant the spell over and over, imagine the rune beginning to glow with a strong, vibrant red light. When you feel that the power of your spell has entered the rune branch, stop your chanting. Save the longest piece of the branch. The two shorter pieces should be returned to the base of the oak tree, and left there in a crossed (X) fashion. On the longest piece of stick that you have retained, draw six Ur runes evenly spaced down its length, either in red paint, red ink [1], or blood. This longest piece of stick can now be used as a type of wand. To bring strength or health to another, trace the Ur rune five times on the person: once on the forehead, once on each palm of the hand, and once on each sole of the foot.

[1] In olden days, such paint or ink would have been made from red ochre.

*** Blessed be to those who serve the Great Mother and the Horned Father.
